Hi‘iaka's Healing Herb Garden is the only public botanical garden in Hawaii that specializes in medicinal plants. We are also throwing the only HerbDay event in Hawaii (so far!). Come to our Open Garden party on May 5, from noon until 5:00 p.m. to enjoy a free tour of the garden, free herbal tea and a chance to get acquainted with Barbara Fahs, the "Healthful Herbalist" of "Big Island Weekly." You will see many plants firsthand that were used in the la‘au lapa‘au tradition of Hawaiian healing and learn how you can make simple preparations from them that can help you in today's hectic world. From ‘awa (kava kava) to noni, to plantain (lau kahi) and many others that occur naturally or that we have planted, you will learn what they look like, how to grow them and how to use them.
